How much will it cost?
The kit will cost $49.99.
Do I have to use everything in the kit?
No, you are free to use as much or as little of the ingredients in the kit except for the 3 ml hop shot, it must be added as instructed. Just make sure to document what you do so that if you are the winner we can recreate your beer.
Do I have to use all the hops?
No, the kit includes 7 ounces of various hops. When and how much you include is completely up to you and your recipe.
What style is this beer?
No real style other than a hop centric, hop forward beer. We will not be judging it according to any style guidelines.
Can I add other ingredients?
No, you cannot add additional ingredients other than fining agents.
If I win, what do I get?
If your beer is selected by CCB you will get to have your recipe brewed on their system and served in the CCB tasting room. You may also be able to assist in the brewing process, but you would be responsible for providing your own transportation and paying your own expenses to travel to CCB for the brewing as well as the when it is put on tap.
What is in the kit?
The kit contains 7 different hops, 3 ml of pure CO2 hop extract and almost 15 pounds of various grains. In addition, you have a choice of 3 yeast strains Cigar City Brewing has never used before.
Do I have to enter the competition?
No, you do not have to enter. The price of the kit includes entry into the competition but you are not required to submit a beer.
Why only 300 kits?
In order to fairly judge the entries we decided to limit the competition to 300 kits.
Why are you doing this?
Wayne Wambles wanted to share with the home brew community some of his favorite ingredients and give brewers an opportunity to try rarely used home brew ingredients like CO2 hop extract.
Why is USPS 2 Day Ship the only choice?
Each kit contains a liquid yeast package and must be delivered within two days to insure viability of the yeast.
When can I start to create a recipe?
As soon as you purchase the kit you will receive an email listing all the ingredients in your kit included the alpha acids of the hops so you can begin to plan your recipe.
When does the kit arrive?
All kits will ship or be available for in-store pick up the week of August 3rd. This will give you 8 weeks to brew and submit your finished beer.
